Odd Goblin Out

A free imposter word game for 3–10 players on one phone. Everyone secretly sees the word except the Odd Goblin. Give one-word clues, point, and catch the imposter.

Odd Goblin Out is a pass-and-play imposter word game for one phone and 3 to 10 people, with no app or sign-up. Choose the players (rename them if you like), then deal. The phone goes round the table: each player taps to peek at their secret card, or presses and holds it, and hides it again before passing it on. Everyone sees the same secret word except one player, the Odd Goblin, who sees a goblin mask and, if you leave the option on, the category. Taking turns from a random first speaker, everyone says one word about the secret while an optional 60-second timer runs. Then count to three, everyone points, and you tap the name with the most fingers. A drumroll and a card flip reveal whether you caught the goblin. A caught goblin gets one last chance: pick the secret word from eight words in the same category to steal the round. The crew scores 150 for a catch, 50 if the goblin steals it and 0 if the goblin escapes. A set lasts 3, 5 or 7 rounds and ends with the crew score, goblins caught and two just-for-fun awards: Sneakiest Goblin and Best Crew Record. Classic Word has 696 words in 30 categories, such as Snacks, Animals, Space, Fairy Tales and Theme Park. Play all of them mixed or pick your own. The game remembers the last 200 words and questions you played and skips them while fresh ones remain: with all 30 categories mixed, nothing from your last 200 rounds comes back, and a single category's 22 to 25 words each come up once before any repeats. Slider Mode is a twist: everyone secretly answers a 0 to 10 question such as 'How spooky is a pumpkin?', but the goblin's question is slightly different and the goblin doesn't know it. All the answers appear at once on one scale, and the table grills whoever looks off. Playing alone? The Daily Lineup shows five goblins with five one-word clues for a hidden word in a known category. Spot the one faking it, as fast as you can; the last two each day are trickier. The same five lineups go to everyone each UTC day, for up to 1,000 points, and only your first try counts. Every list is written for ages 6 and up. On Goblin Arcade your players, settings, recent words and daily results save automatically.

How to play

Tap or hold the card to peek, tap buttons / Space peeks, arrows choose and move the slider, Enter presses the highlighted button, 1–5 picks in the Daily Lineup

Set the number of players (3 to 10), pick Classic Word or Slider Mode and tap Deal the cards. Tap a name first if you want to rename that player with the on-screen letter pad.

Pass the phone. When your name shows, tap the card to peek and tap again to hide it, or press and hold to peek. Then pass it on. Everyone sees the same secret word except the Odd Goblin, who has to bluff.

Starting from a random player, everyone says one word about the secret without saying the word itself. Go round again if you want, or vote when the optional 60-second timer runs out.

Tap 3 · 2 · 1 · Point!, everyone points, then tap the name with the most fingers (or Tie). A caught goblin can still steal the round by picking the secret word from eight. The crew scores 150 for a catch, 50 if the goblin steals and 0 if the goblin escapes.

Playing alone? Open the Daily Lineup, read the category and five one-word clues, and tap the goblin whose clue doesn't fit the hidden word. Faster catches score more, and only your first try each day counts.

Tips

Crew: pick a clue that is true but sideways. Too obvious and the goblin learns the word for the steal.

Goblin: wait for a few clues, then say something that fits most of them. Turn on Goblin sees the category to make bluffing easier for younger players.

In Slider Mode nobody knows whether they are the goblin, so explain your number without saying your question and listen for the answer that doesn't fit.

In the Daily Lineup each catch is worth 200 points within the first 2 seconds, then 10 fewer per second, never less than 50, and the clock keeps running even if you pause. Everyone gets the same five lineups each UTC day, so compare scores with friends who played the same day. Only your first try counts: replays are practice.

Can I play an imposter game online with one phone and no app?

Yes. Odd Goblin Out runs in the browser on one phone or tablet that you pass around the table. There is nothing to install and no accounts. Each player peeks at their own secret card, and the screen between turns never shows the word.

How many players do you need?

Three to ten for the party game. Rounds take about two minutes, and a set is 3, 5 or 7 rounds. For one player there is the Daily Lineup, a short solo puzzle with five new lineups every day.

Is it suitable for kids?

Yes. All 696 words, the 62 Slider Mode questions and the Daily Lineup clues are written for ages 6 and up and checked against a blocklist: no brands, no rude words and nothing scary. Goblin sees the category, on by default, gives younger goblins a fair chance to bluff.

What is Slider Mode?

Everyone secretly answers a question on a 0 to 10 slider, like How spooky is a pumpkin?. The Odd Goblin gets a slightly different question, like How spooky is a puppy?, and doesn't know it. All the sliders appear at once on one scale, then you grill the outlier and vote as usual. A caught goblin can steal the round by picking the crew's question from four.

Does it remember our players and avoid repeating words?

On Goblin Arcade it saves your player names, settings, the last 200 words and questions used, and your Daily Lineup results. The game skips anything on that list while fresh words remain in your chosen categories: with all 30 categories mixed, nothing from your last 200 rounds comes back; with a single category, its 22 to 25 words each come up once before any repeats. Outside the arcade these last only until the page closes.
