Night Elevator

An anomaly game in a goblin-run hotel: the elevator doors open on the same hallway for a few seconds. All normal? Press UP. Something off? Press STOP. One wrong call ends the ride.

Night Elevator is an anomaly game you play in a few glances. Every floor of the Hushmoor Hotel, a goblin-run grand hotel after midnight, has the same hallway, and the elevator doors open on it for three seconds (two and a half from Floor 11, two from Floor 21). If everything looks exactly as it should, press UP. If anything is off, press STOP. Then you get five seconds to decide with the doors shut. A Reference Card shows the normal hallway before Floor 1 and at every new wing, with three hints about what to remember. There are 20 anomalies in three tiers: loud ones such as the carpet on the ceiling, a flooded hall or a door numbered 13; medium ones such as a missing wall lamp, the sun in the window or the STAIRS sign written backward; and subtle ones such as a clock ticking backward, two swapped door numbers, a mirrored hallway or a bellhop statue that turns to face you. About half the floors hide one, never more than three normal or three odd floors in a row. Your score is the number of floors you clear. The Guest, Library and Greenhouse wings each last ten floors; from Floor 31 the Night Shift dims the lights, shrinks the anomalies and sometimes makes them appear a moment after the doors open. Two Peeks per ride reopen the doors for a second and a half. Tonight's Ride is the same ride for everyone each day, with one scored try per day (UTC). Free rides use a random order and can be played any time. Training starts you at Floor 11, 21 or 31 once you have reached it. Every anomaly you spot goes in the Anomaly Log, with a stamp for each wing you find it in. A wrong call reopens the doors, circles what you missed and names it. Hold to compare shows the normal hallway. On Goblin Arcade your log, results and best scores save automatically. Spooky but friendly: no gore and no jump scares.

How to play

Tap UP or STOP / ↑ or W = UP, Space, ↓ or S = STOP, E = Peek, Esc = pause

Memorise the Reference Card. It shows the normal hallway for 6 seconds before Floor 1 and at every new wing (Floors 11, 21, 31 and so on), with three hints about what to remember.

The doors open on a floor for 3 seconds (2.5 from Floor 11, 2 from Floor 21). If the hallway looks exactly like the card, press UP (all normal). If anything is off, press STOP. You can answer while the doors are open, or within 5 seconds after they close.

A correct STOP circles the anomaly and adds it to your Anomaly Log. One wrong call, or running out of time, ends the ride. Your score is the number of floors you cleared.

Two Peeks per ride reopen the doors for 1.5 seconds while you decide. The decision timer waits during a Peek.

Tips

Learn the three hallways. They never change from day to day; only the order of the anomalies does.

Read the flags in order: doors 1 and 3 are on the left and 2 and 4 on the right. A 13, a swap or an extra pair of doors is an anomaly.

Watch the clock for two ticks. Its second hand always starts at about half past four and ticks clockwise.

From Floor 31 the Night Shift dims the lights, shrinks the anomalies, and sometimes makes them appear a moment after the doors open, so keep watching until the doors close.

Save your Peeks for the subtle floors. Floor 2 is always the carpet on the ceiling, so you never need one there.

What is an anomaly game?

In an anomaly game you see the same place again and again and must notice when something is different. In Night Elevator the elevator doors open on the same hotel hallway on every floor. Press UP if nothing has changed and STOP if something has.

Is Night Elevator free, and does it work on a phone?

Yes. It is a free browser game with no download or account. It plays by touch in portrait or landscape, with large UP and STOP buttons, and by keyboard on a computer.

How does Tonight's Ride work?

Everyone gets the same ride each day (by UTC date), numbered from Ride #1 on October 1, 2026. You get one scored try: the try counts as soon as the doors first open on Floor 1, so reloading does not give you another. Free rides use a random order and can be played as often as you like.

Is it scary?

It is eerie but friendly: a cozy, dim goblin hotel with odd and sometimes funny anomalies, like an upside-down plant or a glove waving from a door. There is no gore and there are no jump scares.

Can I play if I am colorblind or have the sound off?

Yes. Every anomaly changes a shape, a position, a count or a brightness, never only a colour, and none is a sound. The UP and STOP buttons differ in shape, symbol and label as well as colour.
