Door Goblin

A grumpy goblin guards the clubhouse door and only lets in creatures that fit today's secret rule. Build creatures, knock, crack the rule, then pass a six-creature test.

Door Goblin is a daily logic puzzle about one grumpy doorkeeper and one secret rule. Every day at midnight UTC a new door opens, and everyone gets the same rule. Build a creature from six parts (body shape, eyes, horns, legs, pattern and hat, 1,296 combinations in all) and knock. The goblin squints through the peephole and either lets it into the clubhouse party, with confetti, or slams the door so it bonks back onto the curb with stars over its head. Every result lands on an IN shelf or an OUT shelf, next to two free examples, so you can copy a creature, change one part and knock again. When you think you've cracked it, take the test: six creatures walk up and you decide who gets in, with no feedback until the end. Then the rule is revealed in plain words, with your six calls marked right or wrong. You start at 1000 points. Your first three knocks are free, each knock after that costs 50, and each wrong call costs 150, so the best players crack the rule in a few smart knocks. Rules get trickier through the week: Monday is one simple trait, midweek brings limits, NOTs, even or odd eyes, counting extras and comparing two parts, and the weekend joins two traits with AND or OR. Past doors stay open in the Archive back to Door #1, each with one scored try, and solved doors offer free practice knocks. On Goblin Arcade your results, streak and any door in progress save automatically.

How to play

Tap parts and KNOCK (or the door) · K knock, R random, G test, I/O or ←/→ to judge

The Door Goblin only lets in creatures that fit today's secret rule. Everyone gets the same rule each day.

Build a creature by tapping its parts: body, eyes, horns, legs, pattern and hat. Colours never matter, only shapes and counts. Then tap KNOCK (or the door itself).

The goblin lets it IN or slams the door, and the creature lands on the IN or OUT shelf. Tap any shelf creature to copy it, change one part and knock again. Re-knocking a creature you already tried is free.

When you think you know the rule, tap I've got it. Six creatures walk up and you call IN or OUT for each. The reveal shows the rule in plain words and your score out of 1000.

Tips

Change one part at a time. Copy a shelf creature, change a single part and knock: whatever happens tells you whether that part matters.

Your first three knocks are free. After that each knock costs 50 points, while each wrong call on the test costs 150, so a fourth or fifth knock that settles a doubt is usually worth it.

The test is built to catch look-alike rules. If two rules both fit your shelves, knock a creature that would split them before you take the test.

Extras means each horn, a hat and a pattern: a creature with two horns, a crown and stripes has four extras.

The weekday hints at the kind of rule: Monday one simple trait, Tuesday a limit or a NOT, Wednesday even/odd eyes or counting extras, Thursday comparing two parts, Friday counting or comparing, Saturday two traits with AND, Sunday two traits with OR.

Is there a new Door Goblin puzzle every day?

Yes. A new door opens at midnight UTC and everyone in the world gets the same secret rule, so you can compare scores with friends. Each door has a number, starting from Door #1 on October 1, 2026.

Can I play past days?

Yes. The Archive lists every door back to Door #1 with your score, or unsolved. Each door gets one scored try; once you've seen its rule, you can keep knocking in free practice but the score stays. Future doors stay locked.

How is the score worked out?

You start at 1000. Your first three knocks are free, each knock after that costs 50 points, and each wrong call on the six-creature test costs 150. The score never goes below 0. A perfect run, cracking the rule in three knocks or fewer and getting all six calls right, scores 1000/1000.

Can I play Door Goblin on a phone?

Yes. It is built for touch in portrait and landscape: every part button and creature on the shelves is a large tap target, and the whole puzzle fits on one screen.

Can I play if I am colorblind?

Yes. Creature colours are only decoration and never part of a rule. All six parts read by shape or count (body outline, number of eyes, horns and legs, spots or stripes, cap or crown), and IN and OUT are always written as words.

Does Door Goblin save my progress?

Yes, on Goblin Arcade. Your results for each door, your daily streak and any door in progress (knocks and test answers) save automatically. Played outside the arcade, progress lasts only until the page closes.
